Petsy also offers three optional benefits you can add to your pet insurance policy:
Optional extras are available for pets under three years old and are subject to benefit percentages and annual limits.
Petsy offers a plain-sailing pet policy covering all bases and adding benefits. These include:
You can pay your premiums monthly via direct debit from your nominated bank account or manually with a credit or debit card. You can contact Petsy if you want to make an annual payment, but no discount is available.
You can lodge a pet insurance claim with Petsy in one of two ways. You can submit a claim online by logging into your Petsy Portal. Select ‘New Claim’, confirm your details and upload a copy or photo of your paid invoice. The assessment team may contact your vet for clinical notes related to the invoice. Alternatively, you can ask your vet to begin a claim on your behalf, and you’ll be contacted by Petsy to confirm the claim.
Claims must be submitted within 90 days of treatment.
You can get between 80% and 90% of your eligible vet bills covered, subject to your policy excess. You can determine your benefit level, annual limit and annual excess amount to suit your needs and budget. Petsy pet insurance also offers you the option to pay no annual excess. Read the policy’s PDS for the full details.
Yes, you can select any registered veterinarian of your choosing within Australia and your cover will stay the same no matter which vet you choose. However, there are no standard fees for vets, so it may be worth getting quotes from different vets if you’re conscious of your budget.
Pre-existing conditions, bilateral conditions and conditions relating to a pre-existing condition are not covered by Petsy pet insurance. A pre-existing condition is an illness or symptoms of a sickness that developed before taking out a policy or within the policy’s waiting period.
There’s a 14-day waiting period for most illnesses and a six-month exclusion period for specified conditions like cruciate ligament damage, hip/elbow dysplasia and breed-related conditions. Accidental injuries can be covered within a day or as specified by your policy.
Your pet must be older than six weeks and younger than nine years if you’re starting a new pet insurance policy with Petsy; however, there are no age limits on policy renewals, provided there are no breaks or lapses in cover.
You can choose a no-excess option on your policy (this may impact your premiums) or an annual excess option. The excess is a one-off for the policy period (which is different to a per-claim or per-condition excess), generally taken from the first claim on a new condition. Check your policy terms for more information.
Petsy pet insurance can cover some of your eligible overseas vet costs in New Zealand and Norfolk Island for trips shorter than 60 days. Otherwise, all other treatments must be provided by a registered veterinarian or animal surgery licensed in Australia.
You can cancel your Petsy pet insurance via email or by contacting the customer care team. You can find contact information for cancellation in your PDS or on the website. Petsy pet insurance has a 30-day cooling-off period after you purchase a policy, which means you can receive a refund of your premiums if you cancel it within the scheduled period and haven’t claimed.
