See-u by HBF (previously CUA Health) offers simple, practical and efficient health insurance coverage. As part of one of Australia’s largest not-for-profit health funds, HBF, you can trust that your health is in good hands.
See-u offers both hospital and extras cover policies for a range of budgets and healthcare needs.
Most see-u hospital and extras policies are designed to be held in combination with each other and cannot be held as a standalone hospital or extras policy.
With see-u health insurance, you have a choice of Basic, Bronze Plus, Silver or Silver plus policies.
All see-u hospital policies qualify you for the Access Gap Cover Scheme, meaning that if your doctor or specialist chooses to participate in the scheme, you’ll have lower or no out-of-pocket expenses.
See-u health insurance is focused on offering simple extras cover policies for the services you’ll actually use. You can choose between their starter extras policy that offers a flat rebate, or their simple 50/60 policies that offer either 50% or 60% back up to your annual limit.
Yes, emergency ambulance cover is included on all see-u hospital policies. Assuming you don’t already have an ambulance subscription, and your ambulance fees aren’t covered by your state government, see-u will pay for two medically necessary emergency ambulance claims per person per year under your hospital cover.
Like all Australian health funds, see-u offers cover for pre-existing conditions at no additional cost. However, you’ll be required to serve a 12-month waiting period before claiming on any hospital services relating to your condition.
If you’ve already served a waiting period for your pre-existing condition with another Australian health insurer and join see-u within two months of your previous cover ceasing, you won’t need to re-serve your waiting period as long as the service had similar or lower benefits and is not an upgrade in cover.
Pre-existing conditions have no effect on your premiums or waiting periods for extras cover.
For hospital cover, see-u has the standard waiting periods of 12 months for pre-existing conditions (excluding psychiatric care, rehabilitation, and palliative care), 12 months for pregnancy and birth related services, and 2 months for everything else. For their extras policies, waiting periods will vary between services, but are generally between 2-12 months.
If joining a see-u policy within 2 months of leaving another Australian health insurer, they’ll generally recognise any waiting periods already served on a comparable or lower level of cover. Waiting periods will only need to be served if:
How you make a see-u health insurance claim will depend on where you’re treated. For most extras services, you can claim by scanning your membership card at the HICAPS machine, or through the mobile app. For hospital services, simply provide the hospital with your policy details and they will work with see-u to settle the bill. You’ll only be required to pay the excess and any out-of-pocket expenses.
You can pay for your see-u health insurance through direct debit. See-u doesn’t offer a discount to pay premiums annually to ensure that it can offer affordable products to all of its members.
Yes, you’ll most likely need to pay an excess when you claim on your see-u hospital policy. On their premium hospital policy, you may get to choose between several excess amounts; choosing a higher excess will result in a lower premium and vice versa.
The rest of see-u’s hospital policies come with a standard excess.
To cancel your see-u health insurance, simply give their friendly customer service team a call and they’ll be happy to take you through the cancellation process.
